About Plinth

A small firm built around one idea: the base comes first.

Plinth Education is a human college admissions counselling firm founded in 2026 by Vansh Gupta, after five years of counselling students across India, the UAE, the UK, the US, Australia and Singapore. The name is the point: a plinth is the stone base a column stands on, and an application stands or falls on the profile underneath it.

Why Plinth exists

What five years of sessions kept showing

The same problems appeared in almost every profile review: a list of ten activities with no spine; competitions entered without reading a single winning entry; a research paper that was really a book report; essays that listed achievements instead of arguing anything; and deadlines missed because everyone assumed someone else owned them.

None of these are talent problems. They are sequencing problems. The essay was attempted before the profile existed. The list was made before the diagnosis. The fix is boring and it works: do the steps in order, write each one down, and have one person responsible for the calendar.

That sequence became the Plinth Method. The firm is built to run it the same way for every student, with the mentors who have run it since 2021.

How we work

Six commitments

01

The student is the client

Parents get a window and a monthly note. The student gets the counsellor. Decisions are made with the student in the room.

02

Honest over flattering

If the list is unrealistic we say so in the first month, when it can still be changed. We would rather lose the engagement than run a doomed one.

03

We never write the essay

Not a sentence. Not the activity descriptions, not the competition entry, not the research paper. Editing, structure and brainstorming, yes. Authorship, never.

04

Artefacts, not impressions

Every step produces a document the family keeps: a diagnosis, a pillar map, a calendar, a brainstorming record. That is how you audit us.

05

One lead, one mentor team

Vansh leads every student's strategy, college list and applications from the first call to the decision. Competitions, research and projects are mentored by the team that has run Projectling, our activity and competition consultancy, since 2021. Same mentors, same results, one consultancy.

06

Faces stay private

Students are never named or pictured. Outcomes are reported in aggregate with a stated method. Their applications are theirs.

Who this is not for

Four reasons to walk away

Stated here rather than discovered on the first call. Most counselling sites only describe the family they want.
  • A guaranteed admit

Nobody can sell one, and a firm that implies otherwise is telling you something about how it works. We can raise the odds and make the application argue properly. We cannot make a decision for an admissions office.

  • A rescue in November of Grade 12

If the essays are due in three weeks and the profile is thin, the honest answer is that counselling cannot manufacture two years of evidence. We will say so on the first call and, if it helps, point you at what is still worth doing alone.

  • Someone to write it

Every year a family asks, politely, whether we will just draft the essay. We will not, and we would rather lose the enquiry than start there. Universities prohibit it, readers notice it, and a student who did not write their essay cannot defend it in an interview.

  • The cheapest option

Free is an agent paid a commission by the universities it places you at. Low-cost is a platform with an undergraduate mentor and a shared spreadsheet. Both are legitimate businesses; neither is this one. If price is the deciding factor, our price survey is the honest place to start.

The people

One lead, and the mentors behind the work

Vansh Gupta, founder of Plinth Education

Vansh Gupta

Founder and Lead Counsellor

The Doon School; scholarship to Drexel University; five years counselling across six countries; students admitted to Dartmouth on a full scholarship, Stanford, Cornell as a Tata Scholar and UNC with a 90 percent scholarship; multiple top-one-percent John Locke commendations. Does every diagnosis, pillar map and essay edit personally.

He also built Projectling, the activity and competition consultancy that has run this work since 2021 and continues as Plinth’s sister firm; Plinth students are mentored by the same team. Separately, he is founder and chief executive of Counza, an AI-native college counselling company. Plinth is deliberately not that. Building the software is what makes the line easy to draw. A model is worst at exactly the parts that decide an application: the diagnosis, the argument an essay makes, the judgement about which risk is worth taking. And a model cannot be held responsible for a judgement. Counza never touches a Plinth student’s file.

Full background

Subject mentors and tutors

Research mentors (graduate students and early-career researchers matched to the student's field), SAT and ACT tutors, and IB, A-level, IGCSE, CBSE and ISC subject tutors. Every one has been interviewed and observed teaching by Vansh before being matched with a student. They are brought in for a defined piece of work; the counselling relationship stays with one person.

Where we work

Online, on your time zone

Sessions run over video, scheduled around school in India, the Gulf, Singapore and wherever the student is. Most editing happens asynchronously in shared documents between sessions, which is faster and leaves a record.

We work with students in international and Indian boards alike: IB, A-levels, IGCSE, CBSE and ISC. For families outside India, invoices are in USD or AED.

Questions about the firm

Before you enquire

Is Plinth an agency, a platform or a private counsellor?

A private counselling practice. No university pays us a commission, so no university has a reason to appear on a list it does not belong on. There is no platform between you and the counsellor. Vansh, who takes the first call, leads the diagnosis, the pillar map and the college list; the Projectling mentor team runs competitions, research and projects; subject tutors are brought in for defined pieces of work.

How many students does Plinth take?

There is no fixed cap, and we do not publish one, because a cap you cannot verify is a marketing device. Plinth runs on the mentor team that has worked with students through Projectling since 2021, which has advised more than three hundred students. What we limit is the kind of engagement: we decline work where the college list is unrealistic.

Does Plinth use AI?

Not for the counselling. Not to draft an essay, not to generate an activity list, not to write a recommendation. Our founder also runs an AI counselling company, which is precisely why the line is drawn where it is: the parts of this work that decide an application are the parts a language model is worst at, and a model cannot be held responsible for a judgement.

Why are there no student names or photographs?

Because a student's application is theirs, and a counselling firm that publishes faces is spending a family's privacy on its own marketing. Outcomes are reported in aggregate with a stated counting method. We explain the reasoning in full on the why-no-faces page.

Where is Plinth based, and does that matter?

Sessions run over video, scheduled around school in India, the Gulf and Singapore. Nothing in this work needs a room: the editing happens asynchronously in shared documents, which is faster than a weekly meeting and leaves a record the family keeps.

What happens if the engagement is not working?

Say so and we stop. Work is billed to the stage reached, not the calendar, and every artefact produced to that point is yours to take to whoever comes next: the diagnosis, the pillar map, the brainstorming record, the calendar. None of it is written in a format only we can read.

The first conversation is with the person who does the work.
