How to apply to Ashoka, Krea and Plaksha: each takes a separate application on its own portal, in rounds, with its own assessment, and FLAME, Shiv Nadar and Jindal work the same way. For entry in August 2027, Ashoka's Round 1 closes on 23 November 2026 and Krea's on 25 October 2026. Need-based aid is decided after an offer, and the early rounds hold more of it.
Most of the advice written about these universities is recycled from the American one, and the two applications are not the same document. There is no Common App here. No school counsellor uploads a report. There is no single deadline, no fee waiver system, and no shared portal. Each university runs its own rounds and its own assessment, and each decides money separately from admission, usually after the offer.
If you are still choosing between this route and studying overseas, the cost and fit comparison sits in Ashoka, Krea or Plaksha versus studying abroad. This piece assumes the decision is made and covers the mechanics.
Ashoka, Krea and Plaksha admission dates for 2027 entry
| University | What the file contains | Assessment | First round for 2027 entry |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ashoka | Three personal essays, marks, activities, recommenders, panel interview | Ashoka Aptitude Assessment, 90 minutes, plus a 30-minute on-the-spot essay | Form closes 23 November 2026, assessment 6 December, decision 3 February 2027 |
| Krea | Application form, marks, essay | Krea Immersive Case Analysis, a group case exercise over two or more days | Form closes 25 October 2026, case analysis 10 and 11 November, result 27 November 2026 |
| Plaksha | Application form plus an academic score from SAT, ACT, JEE Main or boards | Two-part virtual interview: personal interview and technical assessment | 2027 table not published when this was written; the 2026 cycle opened in November with Round 1 closing on 20 December |
| FLAME | Application form, essay, online interview | FLAME Entrance Aptitude Test, or essay only if you submit SAT or ACT | Pre-registration open; FLAME says the cycle begins in mid-September or October 2026 |
| Shiv Nadar | Engineering through JEE Main or SNUSAT; interdisciplinary programmes read the file | SNUSAT and the aptitude paper | 2027 dates not announced; the cycle typically runs from January to July |
| Jindal | Marks plus a test; law through CLAT or LSAT-India | JSAT, with SAT or ACT accepted in its place | Rolling; the 2026 cycle's main deadline was 30 April |
Everything in the last column was read on the universities' own pages on 29 September 2026. Plaksha, Shiv Nadar and Jindal had not published 2027 tables at that point, so treat those rows as the shape to expect and confirm the dates yourself. Our deadlines page holds these against the overseas calendar.
Ashoka University application deadline 2027 and the four rounds
Ashoka has published its full timeline for the August 2027 intake:
- Ashoka Mathematics Challenge. Assessment 23 August 2026, form window 1 to 15 September 2026, decisions 7 October 2026. Top scorers who receive an offer get a confirmed seat in their chosen major and a merit award of up to full tuition, and stay eligible for need-based aid on top.
- Round 1. Form opened 7 October 2026, closes 23 November 2026. Assessment 6 December 2026. Decision 3 February 2027.
- Round 2. Closes 20 January 2027. Assessment 31 January 2027. Decision 14 April 2027.
- Round 3. Closes 14 April 2027. Assessment 25 April 2027. Decision 7 June 2027.
- Round 4. Closes 23 May 2027. Assessment 30 May 2027. Decision 30 June 2027. Ashoka marks this round as subject to change.
Academic orientation runs 4 to 6 August 2027 and the semester begins on 18 August 2027.
Read rounds 2 and 3 together and the trap is obvious. The Round 2 decision lands on 14 April 2027, the same day Round 3 closes. A student who applies in Round 2 and waits for the result has no working time to prepare a Round 3 application. If Ashoka is a serious option, apply in Round 1.
On money: first-year fees for the August 2026 cohort were ₹10,74,000 tuition, ₹2,11,000 residence and ₹5,400 essential services, ₹12,90,400 in total, with a refundable ₹50,000 admissions fee, a refundable ₹75,000 security deposit and a non-refundable ₹10,000 acceptance fee at offer confirmation. The 2027 figures were not published when this was written. Need-based aid opens only after a firm offer. Ashoka charges no application fee.
Ashoka Aptitude Test or SAT: what Ashoka actually asks for
Ashoka does not want an SAT score. It runs its own assessment, and there are two mandatory parts on the day.
The Ashoka Aptitude Assessment is 90 minutes, 40 multiple-choice questions, developed with Cambridge and based on the Thinking Skills Assessment. It tests problem solving and critical reasoning, not syllabus recall, which is why coaching does less for it than families expect.
The on-the-spot essay is 30 minutes on one of two given topics, with no resources and no preparation time. Panel interviews follow for shortlisted applicants.
The form itself carries three mandatory personal essays, board or predicted marks, an activity record with supporting material where you have it, and recommenders whose consent you need before you list them.
Krea University admission process and the case analysis
Krea's rounds begin earliest of the set. Round 1 closes on 25 October 2026, the Krea Immersive Case Analysis runs on 10 and 11 November 2026, and results come on 27 November. Three further rounds sit between December 2026 and May 2027, and the final round closes on 7 June 2027 with the case analysis on 15 June and results on 23 June. Krea gives a tentative admission date of 15 July 2027 and notes that timelines are subject to change. The columns on Krea's own schedule table are easy to misread, so open it and check which date is the deadline and which is the case analysis before planning around either.
The case analysis is the part that surprises people. Applicants work through material in a group while faculty and admissions staff watch how they reason, whether they listen, how they handle disagreement, and whether they build on what others say. There is nothing to memorise. The students who do badly are usually the ones coached to perform, because performance is visible in a room of twelve.
Krea's merit scholarships, from a 20 percent tuition waiver up to a full waiver, need no separate application. Shortlists are signalled after each round, but Krea says the formal award goes out after Round 4.
Plaksha University fees, interview and financial aid
Plaksha reads an academic score from SAT, ACT, JEE Main or Class 12 boards, and states plainly that no single standardised, predicted or board score qualifies an applicant for a shortlist or an offer. Predicted scores get a conditional offer; actual scores convert it to a firm one.
Selection is a virtual interview in two parts: a personal interview, then a technical assessment of how you approach a problem. For the 2026 intake Plaksha ran five rounds, closing on 20 December, 15 February, 21 March, 30 April and 7 June, with interview windows running across each round and decisions a few weeks after each. Expect that shape for 2027 and confirm on Plaksha's admissions page.
Two details matter more than the dates. Plaksha tells applicants who will need a visa to apply by Round 3. And need-based aid requires you to say yes in the original application form; the separate aid application only opens after an offer, but if the box was never ticked, the door is shut. Plaksha's stated threshold for need-based consideration is a household gross annual income below ₹50,00,000. Merit awards of 25 to 100 percent of tuition are considered automatically for every firm offer holder.
FLAME, Shiv Nadar and Jindal admission dates for 2027
FLAME runs monthly cycles rather than a handful of rounds. For the 2026 intake there were six, from an early decision cycle closing on 30 November 2025 through to a final cycle closing on 21 June 2026, each with its own FEAT window and a result about five weeks later. Applicants get an invitation to FEAT and an essay, or to the essay alone if they are submitting SAT or ACT scores, followed by a 30-minute online personal interview. FLAME had opened pre-registration for 2027-28 and said the cycle begins in mid-September or October 2026.
Shiv Nadar admits engineering through JEE Main or its own SNUSAT, and reads the file for its interdisciplinary and science programmes. Its 2027 dates were not announced; the cycle typically runs from January to July.
Jindal is the most rolling of the set, accepts JSAT with SAT or ACT in its place, and routes law through CLAT or LSAT-India. Its 2026 cycle had a main deadline of 30 April. Confirm both before building a plan around them.
How financial aid works at Indian liberal arts universities
At all six, admission and money are two decisions, and money is the later one. The sequence is almost always: apply, sit the assessment, receive a firm offer, then submit income documents for need-based consideration.
The reason an early round holds more aid is arithmetic rather than policy. The aid budget is fixed for the year and allocated as offers go out. By April, the November and January cohorts have already drawn on it. Nothing in the published rules says a later applicant gets less, and every admissions office will tell you the selection standard is identical. Both things are true, and the pool is still smaller.
Documents to have ready before the first offer arrives: two to three years of income tax returns for both parents, Form 16 where there is salaried income, six to twelve months of bank statements, proof of any existing loans, and papers for property or business income. Families that start collecting these in April lose time they cannot get back.
What a strong profile looks like to an Indian admissions reader
The reader at Ashoka or Krea knows the Indian school system. That changes three things.
Scale claims get checked. "Founded an NGO" is a sentence an American reader may take at face value and an Indian reader will not, because they know what a Class 11 student in Gurgaon can and cannot run. Write what you actually did, with the number attached, and it reads better than the inflated version.
Board marks carry more weight than they do abroad. Predicted or actual Class 12 marks are read as a direct signal, not as one datum among many. Our note on predicted grades from Indian schools covers how to get a defensible set.
Depth beats breadth, and the assessments find out which you have. A student who has read seriously on one subject for two years, can name the books, and has a question they are still stuck on will do better in a panel interview than a student with eleven activities. A thinking-skills paper with no syllabus, an essay written on the spot, a case discussion with no right answer: none of these reward preparation of the coaching kind, and all of them reward two years of genuine interest. That arc is what our profile-building work is for, and the Plinth Method does not change between an Ashoka file and an American one.
How the Indian application differs from the Common App
Worth saying plainly, because families get this wrong every year:
- Separate portals, separate uploads. Recommenders have to be approached per university. Ask once, for a letter they can adapt, and give them a fortnight.
- Separate assessments on fixed days. The Ashoka assessment on 6 December 2026 and the Krea case analysis on 10 and 11 November 2026 are dates you attend, not deadlines you submit by.
- No shared financial aid form. The CSS Profile means nothing here. Indian income documents do.
- Different essay register. Same material, different shape. See finding a college essay topic for the part that does transfer.
- Interviews that test the file. Interview preparation applies, with one change: the Indian panel is more likely to pick an idea out of your essay and push on it.
Running this alongside a US or UK cycle is normal and the calendars mostly cooperate. Applying to Indian and foreign universities together sets out where the two collide, and the India field guide covers the exam route this article does not.
What to do this month if you are in Class 12
- This week: decide which two or three of the six you are actually applying to. Six portals is not a plan.
- Before 25 October 2026: submit Krea Round 1 if Krea is on the list, and block 10 and 11 November for the case analysis.
- Before 23 November 2026: submit Ashoka Round 1, and block 6 December for the assessment.
- Through October: ask recommenders, and give them your activity list and a paragraph on why you are applying.
- From November: parents start assembling income documents, because aid forms open at the offer and move quickly.
- Watch Plaksha, Shiv Nadar, Jindal and FLAME for their 2027 tables, which were not up when this was written.
Where this guide stops
These are the published mechanics, not a prediction of the outcome. Ashoka's early rounds are selective, Plaksha's cohorts are small, and a strong file is not an offer at any of the six, which is why a student choosing this route should apply to two or three rather than one. Dates move: Ashoka labels Round 4 as subject to change and Krea says the same of its whole table. And this covers only the universities that read a profile. If the target is an IIT, an NLU or a CUET seat, none of the above applies, because those admit on a rank and nothing else is read.
