Singapore university fees for Indian students look cheap until you read the second column.
Every fee that NUS, NTU and SMU publish for international students comes in two versions: one with the MOE Tuition Grant, one without. The gap is large, and the grant comes with a three-year bond. What follows is what the universities and the Ministry of Education actually publish, read on 26 September 2026.
One thing to settle first: India is not an ASEAN member state, so Indian applicants sit in the "all other international students" column, not the cheaper ASEAN one. Some comparison pages quote the ASEAN figure. It does not apply to you.
NUS tuition fees for international students, AY2026/27 cohort
Annual fees in Singapore dollars, inclusive of GST, from NUS's published fee schedule:
| Faculty | With Tuition Grant | Without |
|---|---|---|
| Humanities and Sciences | S$21,400 | S$36,650 |
| Computing | S$21,400 | S$39,700 |
| Design and Engineering | S$21,400 | S$39,700 |
| Business | S$22,200 | S$33,400 |
| Law | S$30,450 | S$44,450 |
| Nursing | S$22,500 | S$38,750 |
| Medicine | S$87,800 | S$190,150 |
| Dentistry | S$84,550 | S$190,150 |
| Music | S$56,850 | S$147,850 |
NTU fees for Indian students, 2026 intake
From NTU's fee page for 2026 offers:
| Programme | With subsidy | Without |
|---|---|---|
| Most programmes | S$21,400 | S$36,350 non-lab, S$40,600 lab-based |
| Business and Accountancy cluster | S$21,800 | S$45,600 |
| Medicine | S$91,250 | no non-subsidised rate published |
| Renaissance Engineering | S$32,000 | no non-subsidised rate published |
That last column is the detail nobody mentions. NTU publishes no unsubsidised route into Medicine or the Renaissance Engineering Programme. If you are admitted to either, you take the grant and the bond, or you do not go.
SMU tuition fees, AY2026/27 freshmen
From SMU's tuition page:
| Degree | With Tuition Grant | Without |
|---|---|---|
| Business, Accountancy, Economics, Computing, Information Systems, Social Sciences | S$26,200 | S$47,700 |
| Law | S$30,450 | S$56,150 |
Worth noting against NUS and NTU: SMU charges its computing degrees at the same rate as Business, with no premium.
The MOE Tuition Grant bond, and what breaking it costs
The grant is not a scholarship. MOE requires international students who take it to serve a three-year bond, satisfied by full-time employment with a Singapore entity after graduating. Singapore citizens are not bonded; permanent residents and international students are.
Break it and you owe liquidated damages: the full grant received, plus any GST subsidy, plus 10 percent interest per year, compounded at the end of each academic year. That applies if you withdraw, are terminated, change course without carrying the grant across, buy the bond out, or graduate and do not serve it.
Compounding at 10 percent is the part to sit with. It is not a repayment schedule, it is a penalty designed to make the bond binding.
So what does a Singapore degree actually cost
Take NUS Computing over four years. With the grant, S$85,600 and three years of your working life committed to Singapore. Without it, S$158,800 and no obligation. The grant is worth roughly S$73,000, and the question is simply whether three years in Singapore after graduating is a plan you would have chosen anyway.
For many Indian students it is: Singapore salaries are strong, the work is relevant, and three years is not long. For a student whose plan is a US master's immediately after the degree, or a return to a family business in India, the bond is a genuine constraint and the exit is expensive. We work through that trade in Singapore's tuition grant bond.
Medicine deserves its own sentence. At S$190,150 a year unsubsidised, NUS Medicine costs more than most US private universities, and at NTU the unsubsidised option does not exist. Anyone treating Singapore as the affordable medical route should start from those two facts.
Living costs, as each university publishes them
These are not comparable as published, which is worth knowing before you compare them:
- NUS gives an annual figure of about S$6,000 excluding accommodation, with on-campus housing from S$4,000 to S$10,290 a year.
- NTU gives a monthly range of S$1,130 to S$1,960 including on-campus accommodation.
- SMU says most international students stay within about S$2,000 a month.
What to do with this
- Decide on the bond before you apply, not after the offer. At NTU Medicine and REP the decision is made for you.
- Read your own cohort's table. All three fix the rate at entry for the duration, so a figure from a current student or a 2024 blog post is not your number.
- Check the deadline for Indian Standard 12 specifically. NTU published a window of 15 October 2026 to 19 March 2027 for India Standard 12, with an application fee of S$25 and a hard requirement that final results be available by 31 July, or 31 March for Medicine and Renaissance Engineering. Confirm on the university's page before relying on it.
For the admission side rather than the money, see how to get into NUS or NTU from India and the Singapore field guide. If you are still comparing destinations, Hong Kong fees for Indian students sit in a similar band, and the cost of studying abroad from India puts every destination on one page. Modelling the whole degree in rupees against your other offers is part of college admissions counselling.
Where this stops applying
Every figure above was read on NUS, NTU, SMU or MOE pages on 26 September 2026, and all of them are cohort-specific. None of the three publishes AY2027/28 fees yet, so do not extrapolate from these. Open your own intake year's table before you commit to anything.
